Take Off Geography - 0.1 Alpha

Created by DCPR Heart (45 hours hopefully well spent :)

This is a remake of an old educational boardgame originally designed by the good folks at Resource Games, unfortunately they have ceased production. The goal of the game is to get all of your planes to the other side of the map faster.

You can play with up 6 players locally (taking turns with the keyboard & mouse). Networking is on its way but not built yet.

I've aimed to improve this game primarily by giving it a digital interface. (No more squinting at tiny text on a terrible rolled map that won't stay flat!)

Controls
Up, Down, Left, RightMove map
+/=, -Zoom in/out
Left ClickSelect planes, select destinations
Left Click (off target) Deselect
BACKSPACEUndo move, can be a little buggy
SPACEEnd Turn (must have 0 or 2 moves)

The game is still under development, indeed currently you can't actually "win". I aim to implement sound effects and a better zoom function in the next week. Then I will be porting this game for networking to allow you to play with anyone.

Rules

Object of the Game:

Be the first player (or team) to “fly” an entire fleet of jets around the world from “Start to “Finish” along the colored route lines--from Hawaii in the east to Hawaii in the west.

Movement -

The two 8 sided "dice" (triangles) indicate which route lines the player's jet(s) may move. Doubles give a player a second turn. The "Jet" symbol represents a wild. Wilds may be used to move along any route.

On their turn players may either:

    a) Move one jet along two routes successively
    b) Move two jets along different routes
    c) or Forfeit their turn

Bumping:

If a player lands on a city occupied an opponent's jet, that opponent's jet is sent back to Start!

The Take Off Symbol - Not Implemented

In the original game the "take-off" symbol signified that you must draw a "Take Off" card. This card would then instantly transport one of your planes to the city displayed. This feature has not been implemented yet. Currently works as a second wild.

Victory - Not Implemented

You win once you have all your jets at the Finish in the "western" Hawaii. When a jet reaches the Finish, it is considered out of play. (Although it won't disappear yet.) Currently, victory is not implemented, but you can simply declare yourself a winner :)

Future development:

  1. Fix Zoom Bug
  2. Fill out documentation :/
  3. Implement Sound Effects
  4. Implement TAKE OFF! cards, which can allow you to travel farther
  5. Add tutorial
  6. Custom Key binds?
  7. Networking, eventually
  8. Controller Support
